Ministry to the Transgenders, Madras Diocese

We praise god for enabling us, in the CSI Diocese of Madras to have the burden and vision for the Ministry to the Transgenders, since more than two decades.  This unique concern was, initially a part of the ministerial agenda of the Board for Socio-Economic Concerns.  In order to strengthen the concerns of the transgenders, our visionary Bishop, the Rt.Rev.Dr.V.Devasahayam has started a separate department by appointing Rev.Christopher Ratnasamy as director for the effective functioning of the said ministry.  By expressing our solidarity with transgenders, we could also facilitate deeper fellowship among transgenders, so that, they could gain self identity, self respect and self sufficiency and courage to face the indifferent and hostile society.
We could offer counseling and career guidance to the transgenders.  A concerted orientation to the members of the congregation and student community through seminars and awareness programmes, have opened the opportunities for them to share their burdens and witness to the marvelous light of Jesus Christ, who is transforming them to take up newer jobs, and vocations than begging.  There are initiatives to begin petty shops, saris vending, Tiffin stalls so that they can stand on their own legs with human dignity.  We could see, Beauticians, Dancers, Artists, Personal Secretaries, Counsellors, Physiotherapists and even one or two taking up theological education, B.T.H. etc.,
Special Sundary for Transgenders: 22.01.2012
For the first time we could observe a special Sunday on 22.01.2012, throughout the diocese.  Many transgenders could visit our city churches praying, witnessing and in one or two cases preaching in these special services on that day.
New Year Fellowship for transgenders was arranged at the CSI-Risen Redeemer Church, Kodambakkam, from 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Sunday 22.01.2012.  Our Bishop, participated in this joyful event and gave an excellent message for all.  He could donate vessels, saris, for certain individuals for sustenance and development CSI-Immanuel Church's Pastor, Rev. Manual S.Titus, came up with a bountiful gifts to them.  We are thankful to the host church, at Kodambakkam and their Committee Members for their generosity and goodwill.
On behalf of the transgenders and the ministry, we would love to appeal for your continued prayers and support for the well being of transgenders and their future.  To God be the glory.
